CRISIS SERVICES

Abuse Hotline:  1-800-252-5400, www.TxAbuseHotline.org.  To report abuse, neglect, or exploitation of children, the elderly, or people with disabilities.

Buffalo Street, Canton.  Provides advocacy to victims of domestic violence and sexual assault.  Program services include legal advocacy, bi-lingual advocacy for Hispanic victims, hotline, crisis intervention, support groups, criminal justice advocacy, court accompaniment, limited financial assistance, transportation to emergency shelter and medical accompaniment.

By calling 1-800-273-TALK (8255) you’ll be connected to a skilled, trained counselor at a crisis center in your area, anytime 24/7.

Youth Hotline:  1-800-989-6884.  Peer counseling to youth and family members for family conflicts, delinquency, truancy, abuse and neglect, and running away.

Hope Pregnancy Center:  903-567-6000, www.hopecanton.com, 1200 South Trade Days Blvd. Suite 100, Canton.  Provides complimentary and confidential services including free pregnancy tests, free obstetric ultrasound, consultation on all options, compassionate and non-judgmental care, baby clothes, diapers, formula, and baby equipment, parenting education, mentoring, post abortion recovery support group, community referrals.

Assistive and Rehabilitative Services, Texas Department of:  1-800-628-5115, www.dars.state.tx.us.  Contact for information on early childhood intervention services, rehabilitation services, services for people who are deaf or hard of hearing, services for people who are blind or visually impaired, and disability determination services.

East Texas Area Agency on Aging:  1-800-442-8845, www.etcog.org/207/Area-Agency-on-Aging.htm, 3800 Stone Road, Kilgore.  Services include benefits counseling, in-home services, transportation, legal aid, financial aid, caregiver support programs, nursing home ombudsmen, home repair/accessibility/modification, and information and assistance for persons who are 60 or older, with particular attention to low-income minority older individuals, older individuals with limited English proficiency, and older individuals residing in rural areas.

East Texas Council of Governmentswww.etcog.org.  Provides programs and services for East Texas seniors, employers and job seekers.

GoBus:  1-800-590-3371, www.etcog.org/234/GoBus.htm.  Please call before 2:00 pm, the day prior to the requested service. You may call up to one week in advance to schedule a ride.  Vehicles are equipped with wheelchair lifts.  The East Texas Area Agency on Aging (ETAAA) pays for trips to medical appointments, dialysis, and senior centers for seniors who have qualified for their assistance.  Seniors making a trip not covered by ETAAA or who have not qualified for their assistance must pay regular GoBus fares.  Call GoBus at 800-590-3371 to see if you qualify for ETAAA assistance or to get fares.

Golden Years Homecare Specialist:  903-873-2770 or 1-800-285-1209, www.goldenyrshomecare.com , 106 N. Fourth Street, Wills Point.  Provides skilled care of a nurse or therapist to homebound patients.  Medicare pays 100%.

Tyler Street, Suite 112, Athens.  Assists people who have physical or mental disabilities prepare for, find or keep employment by gaining skills needed for a career, learning how to prepare for a job interview or getting the accommodations needed to stay employed.

Trade Days Blvd., Canton.  Services and resources available include: job postings, job search tools, skills assessment and career exploration tools, training and education resources, labor market information, child care resources, and eligibility and referral information to appropriate programs and providers.

Meals on Wheels Ministry:  903-873-3697, Lester House, 335 Wingo Way, Wills Point.  Senior citizens that receive meals are generally over age 60, with physical, mental or financial hardships that make it impossible for the individual to either purchase or prepare food. An in home assessment is conducted to determine the individual’s level of need, and services are offered based on the assessment outcome. No qualifying individual is ever denied meal service based on the inability to pay.  Call 800-451-2912 to determine if you or someone you know qualify.
